What Is Shielding in Chemistry?

What Is Shielding in Chemistry?Shielding is a term used in chemistry that describes the mechanism of interactions of the elements with one another. A clear example of shield chemistry is the graphite in a pencil, which is a combination of carbon and oxygen. The graphite is a major element in making a pencil and it provides good shielding from the more reactive and highly reactive elements of the surface. While graphite, being the most reactive, is a very specific type of carbon found in a pencil, there are other forms of shielding. An example is when you find titanium and gold together. This is because they are used to make thin metal sheets and the surface can be used as a protective layer from other materials.Shielding in chemistry can be accomplished in many different forms, and some of them are almost random. This does not mean that any element could be used for this purpose. There are a few elements that are more well known for their ability to shield, but not all of them are as effective as others. Let's take a look at some of the commonly used shielding forms. The first basic types of shielding are covalent and ionic. In covalent shielding, bonding is established between two elements. The two elements have electrons that are in opposite places. In ionic shielding, ions are bonded together with the bonds being more like those found between molecules. Shielding can be achieved in either form by attaching an electron from one to the other. The properties of the covalent and ionic bonding will affect the amount of shielding they provide. The covalent bonding will allow shielding to take place when the two atoms are in direct contact with one another. However, if the covalent bonding is too close to the outer surface of the graphite, the shielding cannot occur. Therefore, shielding can occur, but the amount of shielding will be lower than if the two atoms were located farther away from one another. In ionic bonding, shielding can occur when the graphite is attac hed to a slightly flexible material.Another type of shielding is that known as molecular shielding. This form of shielding involves bonding between molecules of different sizes. Molecules that are smaller than the graphite will be able to shield against the stronger atoms of the graphite. The shielding of one molecule of an element versus another molecule is known as ionic shielding. In this type of shielding, an atom of the smaller molecule will attach to the outer surface of the larger molecule. For example, when a salt is bonded to a metal surface, the outer layer of the salt will come into contact with the metal. The bonds of the salt then attach to the metal and provide ionic shielding. These examples of shielding will help the student of chemistry to understand what shielding is and how it can be used. Understanding what shielding is in chemistry and how it can be used will help the student to be a successful scientist.

Teach Away Telegram - January 2013

Teach Away Telegram - January 2013 We hope all of our teachers have had a great start to 2013!In this month’s issue, we’ll address strategies for dealing with difficult students, as well as a list of essentials for your carry-on suitcase when moving overseas. Finally, our country spotlight for January is Saudi Arabia.Strategies for Dealing with Difficult StudentsEvery teacher knows the frustration of dealing with a tough student. Some kids act out because they have a difficult time learning, others might have outside emotional issues, and still others just have trouble sitting still! How you handle such students, however, can make a big difference in how you are able to manage your entire class. When faced with teaching a student who is often in trouble, try the following techniques in order to reach her and better control your classroom.1. Find out some of her interests â€"Does your trouble student love comic books? Soccer? Does she have a younger sibling she loves (or one who drives her crazy)? Find out something that’s important to her, especially if it’s something you might have in common.2. Talk to your fellow teachers â€" Do you have a colleague who has had success with this student? Ask him how he’s been able to reach the student. He might have some valuable insight into techniques you haven’t considered.3. Try peer help â€" If your student is strong in one subject, ask her to tutor a classmate who is struggling. Helping someone can be one of the best ways for a child to increase her self-esteem and take an interest in a subject.4. Stay close â€" When possible, stay in close proximity to your difficult student. Put her near the front of the class or spend a little extra time near her during group activities. It won’t address the root of the problem, but sometimes it’s enough just to keep an eye on things.5. Choose your battles â€" This isn’t to say that you should hold a problem student to a different standard than others. But at times it’s worth letting go of the littl e things in favor of working to resolve a larger behavior problem.6. Put yourself in her place â€" It can be hard, but ask yourself why this student is acting out. Does she feel inferior to her overachieving older brother? Is her family life difficult? At best, you might be able to understand an issue that’s bothering her. And at the very least, just reminding yourself to remain empathetic can help you keep your patience when it’s running thin!Traveling Abroad: What to Pack in a Carry-OnStarting a new job halfway around the world is already stressful. The last thing you want when you arrive is to find out that your luggage has been lost and you don’t know where to get anything. These days, there’s no reason to stuff a carry-on with entertainment options: most airlines show movies on international flights, and many travelers can use a single device for movies, music, and e-reading. Use your carry-on space for essentials:Passport and visa documentsDocumentation with your new a ddress and contact detailsMedication (be sure to check before you leave to be sure that your medication will not be a problem in your new country)Two pairs of underwear, two pairs of socks, and one thin change of clothesEyeglasses, if you aren’t wearing them on the planeToothbrush and travel-sized toothpasteCell phone or computer charger â€" however you plan to get in touch with family at home once you’ve arrivedSmall valuablesTake care to pack items that will not cause security issues at the airport, especially if you're not sure what items are forbidden in your new country.Country Spotlight: Saudi ArabiaWorking in Saudi Arabia gives expatriates the opportunity to make a living in one of the world’s wealthiest countries. Teachers in Saudi Arabia earn a lucrative, tax-free salary, and are generally provided accommodation and airfare in addition to their salary. Educators therefore find that they can usually save a lot during their employment. Expatriate communities thrive in S audi Arabia, ensuring that those living abroad can find a support network and familiar amenities.Saudi Arabia’s modern state is rooted in a rich and significant history. Known as the birthplace of the Islamic religion, Saudi Arabia contains the two holiest places in Islam: Mecca and Medina. Modern Saudi Arabia has undergone rapid development since the discovery of oil, which makes up70% of the country’s government revenue. Thanks to the oil industry, Saudi Arabia has grown into one of the richest countries in the world. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is perhaps best known in the West for its enforcement of strict societal rules. Islam governs daily life, and expats must understand and accept the country’s laws and customs if they expect to reside in Saudi Arabia. For culturally sensitive teachers, however, the cultural immersion of Saudi Arabia can be very rewarding. Friendly hospitality, family life, and close-knit relationships form the core of Saudi Arabian interactions. Though the rules are certainly different from what Westerners are used to, most teachers find that learning to accept new customs with an open mind is the best way to truly understand and appreciate Saudi Arabian culture.Teaching in Saudi Arabia can be a challenge, but for the right teachers, it is an extremely rewarding one. Politics and Chemistry Between Man and Woman

Politics and Chemistry Between Man and WomanPope Francis is the new pope and it's important to remember that we all know him as the man who surprised the world with his interviews when he was elected. He doesn't come into power with any baggage, and this should be celebrated.Chemistry between man and woman is another topic that has made news because of this presidential election. Not many people really believe that it will make a difference, but if you look at the evolution of this country, it shows the path where man and woman and the male and female have been treading. There's no longer any doubt that the love for each other is one of the strong undercurrents in American history. These two hot topics are getting very close to each other and so I will put my views on them here. I think both these topics are interesting, but they shouldn't be considered at the same time.Chemistry between man and woman is a very long time coming. Many people were skeptical of the idea, but if you look at the general development of this country, you can see that it has come a long way. The average male and female are still having trouble with finding romance in their lives, but we can see the early signs of progress being made. This is a very sensitive subject that many people are unwilling to discuss, and there are probably many people who are saying, 'Well, we're not ready for this. It's just too soon.' You'll have to ask those people, and let them tell you what they think.Chemistry between man and woman does make a difference, but it's just as important to discuss the concept of equality, and the need for more women in leadership roles, and for more men to step up and take responsibility. That's a good way to start the discussion. His biographer writes, 'Francis is the most promising candidate for the role of the Jesus of love, like to be married and need children, like to learn and grow.' If we take these facts as well as the description given by the biographer, it's very easy t o see how this pope will help inspire some progress in our society.

This is done by the teacher while the student is in the class and thus being in class also arouses the teacher as well. After the masturbation the teacher provides oral sex on the student until she orgasms. These videos are extremely hot as they provide the sort of intimate viewing that only the two people involved could provide. It also provides an opportunity for some much needed, kinky fun for all involved. A great deal of sex can be had if you have a DVD player with plenty of space, as there are many different classes involved. When it comes to going to a local video store, these videos are usually available at a much lower price than what you would normally pay for a DVD. It is simply a question of finding the video that you like and spending the time to find it. SAT Study

7 Ways to Support Your Student's ACT/SAT Study The ACT and the SAT are important components of any college application. However, it can sometimes prove difficult to convince your child to adequately prep for them even if he or she is normally an A+ student! While studying for the ACT or the SAT is ultimately your childs responsibility, there are ways to encourage your students efforts. Here are seven ways to support your students ACT/SAT study: 1. Help your student find the right study materials Regardless of whether your child registers for the ACT or the SAT, prep materials (like the ACT practice testsand these SAT practice tests) are a must-have. You can help find them by taking your student to a bookstore or conducting research online. Your child's guidance counselor and teachers may also be able to recommend specific resources, so encourage your student to visit these individuals as soon as possible. This willhelp your studentanalyze practice test results. [RELATED: What is an Average ACT Score?] 2. Ensure a quiet study space This might mean turning the television off or reminding your family to keep their voices low. If your child prefers to study at the library, it might also mean offering him or her a ride to and from the chosen prep spot. 3. Encourage your student to study regularly Ask your child about his or her study schedule, and prompt them to pull out their review materials if they tend to procrastinate or forget. These are some great tips on how to avoid study distractions. If your child hasnt settled on a prep schedule yet, helping them create one is a great way to support their ACT/SAT study. You may also want to consider a test prep tutorto help your child. 4. Register for the test together This process can be confusing, and it often requires a credit card number. Registering for the ACT or SAT with your student will provide a concrete prep deadline, which may encourage your child to further commit to his or her study regimen. 5. Assist with timing Another way to support your students ACT/SAT study is to help replicate the testing environment. Whenever your child completes a practice exam, you can assist by manning the timer and simulating true testing conditions. This can be especially useful for those students who may need to work on remaining focused. It can also limit unnecessary breaks. Early in the prep process, your student may require additional time to finish a full exam, and this is perfectly fine. Simply track the extra minutes, and monitor his or her improvement over time. You can also offer time management strategies if he or she continues to struggle in this area. 6. Ask for progress reports Ensure your child can answer the question, What have you been working on? Encourage your student to study the more difficult concepts, rather than just the individual problems that they may have answered incorrectly. You can also ask your child to record his or her practice test scores in a central location. Not only does this allow you to measure your childs readiness for the ACTor SAT, it also helps your student gauge their own abilities. [RELATED: What is an Average SAT Score?] 7. Talk through stress factors If your child suffers from test anxiety, talk through exactly what they fear on the ACT or SAT. Assure your child that you will supportthem no matter what the score, and be clear and reasonable with your expectations. Teaching your child relaxation techniques is another way you can support your students ACT/SAT study during a stressful time.

Standard Normal Distribution Table

Standard Normal Distribution Table Definition: - The standard normal distribution table gives the probability of a value being between a particular value of z and the mean. The whole number and tenths- palace appear in the first column of the table. Across the top of the table are the values of the hundredths place portion of the z score. To read the z score table, we always start from z=0, which represents the mean of standard normal distribution table. Standard normal curve is like a bell shape and it is symmetric figure, which means area on the each side of the mean are equally distributed and equal to 0.5. Although the values of z on the left side of the mean are negative, the area under the curve is always positive for both positive z score and negative z score because z table represent the area under the curve and area cannot give a negative value. Example: - Find the area of between z=0 and 1.06. Solution: - Find 1.0 (the portion of this z score from the z table) from the first column. For this z score, the hundredths- place value is 6, so find 0.06 from the top of the table. Since 1.06= 1.0+0.06. Then take the intersection value of 1.0 and 0.06 which is 0.3554. Another example: - Find the area between z= 0 and 2.72. Solution: - From the z table area under z=0 and 2.72 is 0.4967
